Loon Bulletin

During their spring and fall migrations in rainy conditions it is not uncommon for Loons to mistake wet pavement for water and land on it. This puts them in a situation they are not able to handle, being water birds Loons have feet that are placed far back on their bodies. While this makes them incredible swimmers it also leaves them unable to take flight from land. If you should come across a Loon that is more than a few yards from water it will need assistance. Please call your local bird rescue organization or Natural Resources department so they can safely return the Loon to water.
